The town of Glossa, perched on the hillside, looking out towards Skiathos and the mysterious mountains of the Pelion Peninsula, is one of the most idyllic locations in the Sporades. Strict planning controls have ensured that the town still appears much as it would have been over one hundred years ago. Captain Yiannis is approached up a narrow, cobbled street.The lane behind Captain Yiannis, although officially pedestrianised, can occasionally act as an access road for the local residents.

The true glory of this fascinating house is only apparent once you open the front door. The house is still owned by the family of the sea captain who built it and after whom it is named. You step into a gracious and large bedroom/salon that has been lovingly and tastefully restored using authentic period furnishings. Wooden steps lead down to an equally elegant living room, the well equipped kitchen and a beautifully presented bathroom complete the accommodation.

Its maritime connection is well represented through intricate models of ships made by Captain Yiannis himself and period photographs on the walls. Patio doors open onto a high balcony and an extraordinary panoramic view that must have been a source of continual delight to the retired sea captain. It is a view for all times of the day, looking down on the rooftops and wooded slopes to the small port of Loutraki, a smugglers and pirates haven in days gone by. Your view stretches out over the sparkling blue water dotted with reefs and islets to Skiathos. Adjacent to the property in its own garden, is a private swimming pool and sun terrace.

The town itself is made for gentle exploration. In the same street are two traditional bakeries, a general store and a handful of tavernas noted for their fine food and spectacular views. Pathways lead out from the village through olive groves and lovingly tended vegetable plots, for Glossa is certainly not a ‘museum’ village but a real community that still makes a living from the fertile soil of the surrounding fields.

Originally designed to provide a gracious and relaxing home environment after the rigours of a life at sea, there is a real sense of well being in this unique and authentic property.
