Family has always been central to the Greek way of life and business, especially on the islands. Milia Bay is a delightful example of a classic, small Aegean family run hotel. Owned and run by the Menayas family, the Milia Bay Apartments are blessed with a beautiful location, elevated on a south facing slope densely wooded with pine and cypress trees overlooking the bay of the same name.

Milia Bay Apartments consist of a number of two storey buildings scattered around the hillside and surround the pool. Each building is comprised of apartments that are all beautifully appointed, successfully combining modern comfort and traditional style. With only twenty one apartments and studios, each has its own shaded veranda or balcony and most include glorious sea views across to the ‘Two Adelphi (Brothers) Islands’. The spacious studios have twin beds, shower room and balconies that take in the fabulous view. The one bedroom apartments and comprises of a living room and double sofa bed, open plan kitchenette, a twin bedroom, shower room and a terrace with magnificent views out to sea. The two bedrooms apartments are similar but with a double bedroom and twin bedroom.

The pretty gardens, planted with many native Mediterranean species and surrounded by mature trees, give the apartments the feel of a private and intimate country house. The reception area, lounge and bar are located just behind the large sea water swimming pool, which also has a small fitness suite attached for those who like their exercise close at hand. Milia beach, a beautiful cove of sand and white pebbles is framed by low cliffs and lapped by a sea of pure turquoise, it is only four hundred metres down the lane beside the apartments. Other beaches are all within easy reach, including the red sands and striking cliffs of Kokkinokastro (Red Castle) close to where the ancient but now submerged city of Ikos was believed to have been.

As a change from the beach or pool, the fascinating interior of the island can easily be explored using the many footpaths and tracks that wind in and out of the olive groves and pine woods. Patitiri and Chora are less than a ten minute drive away whilst Steni Vala, a little further serves fresh fish right on the waters edge. Alonissos is one of the most peaceful and relaxing islands and the Milia Bay Apartments captures its spirit perfectly.
