Perantzada 1811 Art Hotel
Vathyi, Ithaka

Exquisite and stylish hotel with wonderful views across Vathy harbour
12 room boutique hotel with shared pool
• Sleeps 2-4 • Swimming Pool • Breakfast • A/C

The early years of the 19th century were turbulent times throughout Europe, particularly for a Greek nation struggling for independence. Yet during this period Ithaka enjoyed an unparalleled prosperity, due in part to the initiative and imagination of its largely seafaring population. Ithakian vessels with Ithakan crews were sailing throughout the Adriatic and into the Black Sea, developing trade even as far as the upper reaches of the Danube. This new found wealth was used to build elegant neo classical houses around the wonderful natural harbour of Vathy, the island’s capital.

Nearly two hundred years later many of the elegant town houses have survived, albeit damaged in the great earthquake of 1953. The Perantzada Hotel was one of these and has recently been completely renovated and modernised to provide a stylish and supremely comfortable small hotel. The exterior, whilst maintaining the classical tradition has been painted blue to reflect the colour of both the Ionian sea and sky, a theme repeated inside with the addition of a brilliant white to set off the modern sculpture and murals that are a fascinating feature of the hotel.

The accommodation is spread over two buildings with swimming pool, all sharing the same superb view, designed for ultimate relaxation. All the rooms are extremely comfortable and the upper ones enjoy a view from their private balconies across the tiled roofs to the harbour which seems delightfully exclusive. As for the breakfasts, with their choice of traditional home made cakes and pastries, no more need be said other than that the locals can often be found here!

The hotel is located on a narrow, traditional alley which runs parallel to the waterfront and although quiet, it is just five minutes’ leisurely stroll along the harbour to the plateia, the hub of this charming port where visitors and locals gather to enjoy a meal or a drink in the long summer evenings.
