Kalamakia, just 3 kilometres to the north of Steni Vala, is a small hamlet with two or three tavernas nestled next to Babakies Beach. You could say that this is the end of the road, which is true enough, but in fact Kalamakia is right in the heart of some of the best countryside and coastline on Alonissos.

The Karnagio Beach Villa is perfectly placed to view the wonderful surroundings and perhaps the sight of occasional passing fisherman. Babakies Bay, where they take the boats out of the water in the winter, is a stone’s throw away and close by are many secluded little coves waiting to be rediscovered. By car, the beautiful beach at Agios Dimitrios is only a five minute drive away as is the picturesque fishing harbour of Steni Vala, whilst Patitiri with its shops and tavernas is also within easy driving distance.

A special feature of the house, apart from its lovely swimming pool, is the full length shaded veranda along the front from where the beautiful sea and island views can be enjoyed in cool shade even on the hottest afternoon. Sun seekers are equally well catered for on the sun terrace paved with local stone around the pool. The veranda also serves as an extension of the spacious living area, especially if the patio doors are kept open to catch the breeze. Inside, traditionally styled furniture combines comfort and ease of living with a small but well equipped kitchen on one side and an open fireplace in the other corner.

A curved staircase leads to the upper floor and its two bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a double bed, which enjoy the same superb views and a large partly shaded balcony. The beds face double patio windows. It may well be worth the effort of waking up early, just to lie in bed and watch the sun rise over Peristera Island. Both bedrooms share a shower room and there is also another downstairs off the living room which should help avoid those family disagreements in the morning!
