A superbly appointed new hilltop villa enjoying panoramic views to Ithaka and beyond in a peaceful village setting Sleeps 2 - 6 Private Swimming Pool Car Hire Air Conditioning This newly-built villa enjoys one of the finest locations in northern Kefalonia and is a fine example of how the local inhabitants have responded to the destruction wrought on their homes and livelihoods half a century ago by the great earthquake. Dependence on the old ways of fishing and farming might have gone, along with many of the original houses but the tradition of style and proportion that stretches back to Venetian times has certainly not been forgotten in the design of the Villa Evanthea.
Local limestone with its subtle blend of colour and texture has been used to clad the exterior, each block hand shaped by masons using techniques and tools that havent changed in over five hundred years. Even the wrought ironwork of the balcony balustrade continues the Venetian influence.
The hilltop site surrounded by fields and old stone walls, with a scattering of houses in the foreground was chosen for its superb panorama of northern Ithaka, the Ionian Sea, dotted with boats of all shapes and sizes, and the mountains of Lefkada. Katsarata is a beautiful and quiet hamlet, where life moves at a gentle pace.
No expense has been spared on the interior of the house, from the polished marble tiled floors, the craftsmanship of the wooden windows, beamed ceilings, the designer furniture to the infinity swimming pool set with the same glorious view on a raised, private terrace.
All three spacious bedrooms have their own en suite bathrooms. The master double and a twin-bedded room on the first floor have large French windows opening out onto the balcony, The third bedroom is on the ground floor, also with a glazed patio door that opens directly onto the terrace and pool area. The rest of the ground floor consists of the open plan living, dining and kitchen area, with a feature stone fireplace having to take second place to the wide double French windows, allowing the fabulous view to be enjoyed from inside the house. The cook isnt forgotten either as the fully-fitted modern kitchen area has its own French door leading onto the terrace.
Peaceful though it is, the hamlet of Katsarata is only 10 minutes drive down the hill (or a leisurely half hour stroll on old footpaths) to Fiskardo, whilst the village of Manganos with mini markets and tavernas, and the main road along the spectacular west coast of the Erisos peninsula is less than five minutes away.
Plato once wrote It is a common saying, and in everybody's mouth, that life is but a sojourn. If he was right, then a sojourn in this delightful villa might well prove to most life affirming!
