ABTA Statement on Visitors to Greece

There have been reports in the media lately regarding visitors to Greece being advised to bring cash with them – In light of these articles ABTA have released a statement on this matter which is outlined below:

“You may have seen reports in the media stating that holidaymakers travelling to Greece are being advised to take cash with them rather than relying on credit cards, understandably, this coverage will have caused concern for some.  There is a level of unhelpful speculation driving these stories, but in reality the advice from the Foreign Office is that, just as with other countries, travellers to Greece should take a range of payment options.

This advice is not new, it has been in place since December 2012 and it is also in line with ABTA’s general advice to travellers.  We have clarified this with many journalists to try and allay fears and prevent further speculation”.
