Governor’s House
near Gaios, Paxos
The Governor’s House, as its name implies, was the official residence of the British Governor when Paxos was a British Protectorate during the 19th century. As you would expect, it is a beautifully proportioned traditional stone dwelling encircled by stately olive trees. The thick stone walls ensure that the house is kept cool even in the height of summer. The golden exterior contrasts warmly with the deep green shutters, whilst inside the house itself is spacious and airy. Outside, a generous pool terrace looks out over ancient silver olive trees, allowing glimpses of the glimmering sea beyond, and a large dining table hides under a shady canopy. This part of Paxos is a haven of peace and quiet with wonderful walks that cut through the olive groves guided by dry-stone walls. Even though the villa is in an idyllic country setting, it only a short drive to the island’s bustling capital, Gaios, and the beach of Kloni Gouli is only a kilometre away.
