Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands is a place where timing truly shapes the experience.

The island’s dramatic limestone cliffs, turquoise bays, pine‑covered mountains and sleepy fishing villages feel very different depending on the season. Weather, sea temperature, crowds and even the island’s colours shift month by month.

May–Mid June & September

If you are looking for a good balance of weather, warm seas and fewer crowds, three months stand out:

  • Late May to mid‑June
  • September

These months offer:

  • Warm but not scorching temperatures
  • Sea temperatures comfortable for swimming
  • Lower accommodation prices than peak summer
  • Quieter beaches and roads
  • Blooming landscapes in spring; warm seas in autumn

Late May to mid‑June sees temperatures rising from 19.5°C to 23.4°C, with 10–11 hours of sunshine and minimal rainfall. Seas warm from 19°C to 22.5°C

September remains summery, with average temperatures around 23.6°C, highs up to 27°C, and sea temperatures around 25.5°C—some of the warmest of the year.
